Tell us, readers: Do you like it when we have to resort to using regional or national news stories in the True Crime column? If not, please send your letters to the U.S. Marshals Service, 550 W. Fort St, No. 777, Boise, 83724. Between April 17 and April 23, this cold arm of the Justice Department reached into Idaho's dankest cavities and yanked out 74 federal fugitives, each of whom could have been the subject of a special little article that could have wafted a little cloud of black humor into your otherwise pointlessly cheerful day. They called it Operation Falcon Two, but a more appropriate title may have been "Operation Let's Keep Boise Weekly From Wafting a Little Cloud of Black Humor into Everybody's Otherwise Pointlessly Cheerful Day."
True, the 30 or so fugitives who were picked up for charges like sexual assault, attempted strangulation or explosives-related charges are better off the streets, period. But did you really have to go after that one dope who was on the hook for harboring a fugitive? Or the fraud guy? We love fraud!
