Pengilly's - Bistro@BoDo - Falcon Tavern

Grape and Grain Gossip

Wild Women on Wine. If winter has had your white wine tastebuds in hibernation, get your palate re-tuned to the cooler side of grape Wednesday, April 26, when Bistro @ BoDo hosts a tasting of five white wines from its wine list. Bob Tait of Tastevin Wines will pour wine ranging from Chardonnay to Gerwurztraminer, educating the women in attendance about each. The tasting begins at 5:30 p.m. and includes five wines and cheese for $25 per person. Reservations are required, call 345-0452.

Bistro @ BoDo, 409 S. 8th St., 345-0452.

Sexy Pengilly's Saloon. Though many a smoochers have used Pengilly's high wooden booth walls as shelter behind which to swap spit, the odds seemed relatively low the time-warped space would ever be voted the sexiest place in the state. However, the geniuses at Cosmo (with whom we here at BW never thought we'd share a common opinion--beyond the most painful way to rid your man of back hair, that is) have nominated the loved downtown hangout as the sexiest place to plant one on your partner. Check it out in the May issue on newsstands now. Or stop into Pengilly's for a cocktail (and a smooch) and check out the bar copy.

Pengilly's Saloon, 513 W. Main St., 345-6344.

New Flag Flying at the Falcon Tavern

Since November of last year, the Falcon Tavern has been under the direction of new owners, husband and wife team Corey and Tracy Bresina. A graduate of Western Culinary Institute in Portland, Corey puts his skills to work creating two made-from-scratch soups each day as well as an entree special not featured on the menu. Starting this Wednesday, Corey will add a weekly special to the menu that promises to be healthy summer fare. Beyond the edible, new ownership has brought live music on Saturday nights and work from local artists rotating monthly.

Falcon Tavern, 780 W. Idaho St., 947-3111.

While there's something charming about a semi-hidden sushi spot housed in an odd downtown mall complex, that charm doesn't extend to Shige's newest nextdoor venture: a fine-dining steak and seafood restaurant.
