Inching Up

The cost of state hunting and fishing is likely to go up, but not quite as much as planned.

While the Idaho Legislature has yet to consider the plan, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game has revised a proposal that would still increase fees, but by 15 percent rather than the 20 percent presented last year.

As it stands, the cost for resident combo hunting and fishing licenses wouldn't change, while resident deer licenses would increase slightly. Non-resident hunting licenses would be raised by $13.25. Fishing tournament permits, controlled hunt applications and daily fishing licenses would also see increases. For more information on fees, check out

Registration for the annual ChairHoops wheelchair basketball tournament is running out. Ten-person teams made up of first-time wheelchair users and pros will take on each other March 20-21 at Borah High School. Funds raised will go to the Idaho Youth Wheelchair Sports Camp for kids ages 6-12.

Divisions are available for men's, women's, coed and corporate teams, and registration costs $140 for a full team (that's $14 per person) with $10 per player for any more than the requisite 10.

Parks and Rec is helping out with open-gym practices on Saturdays, Feb. 21-March 14 from 4-6:30 p.m. at the Fort Boise Community Center. A $4 fee is required for each practice, which includes use of the wheelchairs.

All registration is due by Friday, March 6. For more information, call 208-384-4486 or visit the activities page on the Parks and Rec Web page at
