Record Store Day 2016 has officially begun. To christen the event, Atlanta-based duo Larkin Poe played some raw Southern blues during an in-store at The Record Exchange.

The duo of sisters Megan and Rebecca Lovell channel the spirit of Blind Willie Johnson to create great bluesy roots rock. Larkin Poe is currently on tour opening for Elvis Costello, who is playing tonight at The Egyptian. Tonight's show is sold out, so it was a real treat for the 50 or so people who attended the in-store today to hear some Larkin Poe originals, like “Blunt” and “Trouble in Mind,” as well as a few covers such as “Black Betty” and “Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)"—the sisters even sang happy birthday to a very lucky man named Lou.

After the show, the Lovells signed copies of their new, not yet released album Reskinned (RH Music, 2016).

RSD 2016 festivities continue tonight: The RX is hosting a listening party of new releases, and Payette Brewing will be on hand with beverages.
