Riders on the Storm • Steve Young Performs Solo

And Here I Thought He Was Wandering the Desert with Wayne ...

Heads up: Riders on the Storm plays the Big Easy on December 17. OK, OK, quit screaming. I know this is very exciting for some of you. For those of you who don't know who or what Riders on the Storm is, R.O.T.S. is Doors founding members Ray Manzarek and Robby Kriege and The Cult's former frontman Ian Astbury on lead vocals (looking like Morrison's doppelganger). Phil Chen plays bass and Ty Dennis is on drums.

According to a press release, "Riders on the Storm retains the same power and majesty that the original band possessed in the halcyon days of their earliest beginnings. The band's two-hour sets were powerful statements as to not only the viability of this most anticipated reunion, but that the Doors music is timeless--with the ability to not only touch the hearts and minds of the generation that grew up with the band's music, but also new generations of younger fans that only had read or heard of The Doors." So, there.

It Was 20 Years Ago Today, Steve Young Found A Place To Play ...

American singer/songwriter Steve Young performs solo at Old Boise Guitar on Dec. 2. As well as this rare performance, Young presents a chance-in-a-lifetime songwriting and guitar workshop on Dec. 3. Young composed "Seven Bridges Road," "Lonesome, Onr'y and Mean," "Montgomery in the Rain" and many other classic songs. Young is a pioneer of Americana and a leading figure in alt-country music. His music covers a range of Americana, blues, folk, country, Tejano and Celtic. He is on tour to support his new CD, Songlines Revisited, Vol. One (Starry Pyramid), his 14th recording. On his new disc, Young revisits and reinvents favorite songs from his four-decade career. Tickets for the in-store concert are $10 in advance, $12 at the door. The fee to attend the workshop is $25. For information and reservations, call 344-7600. Old Boise Guitar is located at 515 S. Main St.
