I've been told that both my mother and I were born in the wrong generation. With my mother enjoying the more modern bands like Tool and Puddle of Mudd and me enjoying music from the '80s, it's hard to argue. Luckily, the two of us can enjoy the music of our own generations on occasion. Needless to say, I was a little wary about to Static-X's Cannibal. Once I did listen, though, I was amazed at what I heard.
Static-X has easily combined the sound of recent bands, like Korn, with the rawness of the classic older bands like Metallica. The effect is a high-energy toe-tapping sound.
The accomplishment may be due to the help of co-producer John Travis (Kid Rock) or the fact that Static-X debuted 13 years ago, but whatever the reason, it's unlikely any metal fan will walk away unsatisfied. After all, the band's fifth CD debuted at No. 36 on Billboard's Top 200 albums and has sold approximately 70,000 copies while maintaining its position on the list since April 3.
Old and new fans of Static-X will be pleased to learn they'll be performing in the 2007 OzzFest, with Lamb of God, Hatebreed and more. Fans may also enjoy the behind-the-scenes Web clips on the making of Cannibal, which can be found at myspace.com/staticx.
