UPDATE: October 27, 2015 2:30 p.m.

Boise Police said late Tuesday that a BPD officer "gave repeated commands to the man to drop his firearm" before the officer fired his weapon, wounding the suspect following a brief foot chase through a Boise Bench neighborhood.

Boise Police said officers were in the area conducting an investigation of "suspicious, possible drug and weapons activity," when a traffic stop was conducted at the the intersection of Rose Hill and Peasley streets at 11:53 p.m. on October 26. Police said they recognized the driver of the vehicle from a police stop the night before when the suspect also ran away from officers.  The officers said they pursued the man on foot, ending in a small backyard of a residence in the area. That's when police said they ordered the suspect, who was armed, to drop his firearm prior to shots being fired.

Police said officers rendered  medical aid to the suspect who had wounds to the leg and hand. Police said "preliminary evidence suggests a shot fired by the officer hit the man. There is also evidence the subject may have shot himself as well during the incident."

The suspect, only identified as a 37-year-old male, was rushed to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries which were not life-threatening.

The officer involved in the shooting was identified as Adam Crist, an eight-year veteran of the Boise Police Department assigned to the Community Outreach Division.

Meanwhile the Ada County Critical Task Force has been called in to investigate the incident. Additionally, the Idaho State Police are leading a multi-agency inquiry.

An unidentified man was rushed to a local hospital overnight after being wounded in a police-involved shooting on the Boise Bench. The extent of the man's injuries had not been made public as of Tuesday morning.

Boise police confirmed an officer was attempting to make a traffic stop just before midnight near the intersections of Rose Hill and Peasley streets. The driver of the vehicle reportedly took off on foot, running down Peasley. During the foot chase, an officer shot and subdued the suspect.

No other details were immediately available.

Teams of detectives were walking the surrounding neighborhoods Tuesday morning, asking residents if they had heard any disturbances just before midnight. Boise Weekly Editor-in-Chief Zach Hagadone, who lives in the area, told police he heard a loud boom some time around 11:30 p.m. but assumed it was a backfiring car. Detectives asked to inspect Hagadone's back yard in order to account for bullets.

Because a BPD officer fired his weapon at the suspect, the Ada County Critical Incident Task Force and Idaho State Police have taken over the investigation.
