Near the end of Deep Down Trauma Hounds' set at El Korah Shrine's History of Boise Rock Showcase on March 23, keyboardist Todd Dunnigan spoke to the crowd.

"We have two more songs for you before we never play again," he said.

If that turns out to be true, the five-man band went out on a high note. The group's rumbling bass, cool-jazz keyboard lines, steady drums and pleasantly rough vocals handled swaggering blues-rock, country swing and shuffling funk with equal ease.

The real spotlight-stealer, though, was Ned Evett, who made his fretless guitar yowl, moan and squeal.
