Trustees Appointed

The College of Western Idaho has its first trustees.

The Idaho State Board of Education announced Monday that Hatch Barrett, Mark Dunham, Jerry Hess, Guy Hurlbutt and M.C. Niland were unanimously chosen to be the first five trustees of the new community college.

Both Hess and Niland were chairs on the Community College Yes campaign, which pushed to create a special taxing district covering Ada and Canyon counties to fund the school.

More than 100 people from across both counties applied for the positions, which will lead the formation of the school. The five were appointed to their respective seats for varying time periods, and once expired, the positions will go up for election.

Hess, a Nampa resident, is a former member of the Idaho State Board of Education, while Niland, also from Nampa, is president and CEO of Western Idaho Training Company. The remaining three trustees are all Boise residents: Barrett is president of Trebar Inc., Dunham is vice president of the Idaho Association of Commerce and Industry, and Hurlbutt is president of the Idaho Business Coalition for Education Excellence.
