Underage Alcohol Compliance Check: 32 Citations

A person who sells or furnishes alcohol to underage youth faces fines of up to $1,000 and penalties of up to a year behind bars.

In anticipation of prom and graduation season, The Boise Police Department's alcohol enforcement team conducted multiple operations on April 12, collaborating with minors, aged 16  to 18 years old. The enforcement operation included so-called "shoulder taps," where teens asked adults unknown to them to purchase alcohol. Additionally, police conducted compliance checks and followed up on citizen complaints of loud, underage parties where citizens believed alcohol was being served.

Through the evening, the Boise Police Department issued 32 citations:

- 11 for allegedly providing alcohol to a minor

- 15 for underage drinking

- three for open container violations

- three traffic citations

Police said they found some of the teens and underage drinkers at the parties were from outside of Boise but came to the city for the parties.
