Winter Rules: 2016 McCall Winter Carnival

Friday, Jan. 29-Sunday, Feb. 7

Snow much fun.

Kelsey Hawes

Snow much fun.

In 1924, around 2,000 people attended the first McCall Winter Carnival. In 2016, about the same number of visitors will probably compete for a single parking space as tens of thousands of people flock to the resort community for the 51st annual event (the carnival went away for a few decades in the mid 20th century).

The highlight of this year's 10-day festival will be, of course, the unveiling of dozens of dazzling snow sculptures, along with the Mardis Gras Parade on Saturday, Jan. 30.

The event we're most looking forward to: the Monster Dog Pull, on Sunday, Jan. 31, where the only thing monster about it is the laughs.
