Wolf Tag No. 1

State's first tag goes for big bucks

Idaho’s wolf hunting season is turning into big bucks for Idaho Fish and Game thanks to nonprofit groups across the country.

Wolf tag No. 1 was recently auctioned off for a whopping $8,000 at the Congressional Sportsmen Foundation’s Wine, Wheels and Wildlife event in Lexington, NC. Bass Pro Shops founder Jonny Morris bought the tag , and plans to give it to his son, according to a release from Idaho Fish and Game.

The state agency offered tags Nos. 1-10 through six nonprofits, which will auction or sell them, with the proceeds going to Fish and Game’s general license fund.

Tags Nos. 3 and 8 brought in a combined $1,700 on Sept. 30 at an auction held by the Mule Deer Foundation, while tags No. 4 and 10 were auctioned by Sportsmen for Fish and Wildlife for a total of $1,405.

Tag No. 5 went for $350 at the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation’s banquette in Mackay on Oct. 3.

Tags No. 9, 2, 7 and 6 will be auctioned at various events through the end of November.

Regular wolf tags cost $11.75 for residents, while out-of-state hunters have to pony up $186.
