XFest, Aug. 10, Idaho Center

This weekend is the third annual 100.3 XFest sponsored by 100.3 the X (KQXR), Bravo Entertainment and Scion.

This year, according the radio station's Interim Program Director Jeremi Smith, aka Big J, aka Biggie, the lineup for this year's festival was carefully planned out. "It's expensive to bring bands in so we want to make sure that the music appeals to the broadest possible audience." Responsible for a large part of the promotion and planning of the event, Smith said it was important to get the right bands in. I get that, but Godsmack and Social Distortion together? Smith said, sure, those two bands might not play well in another area, but here in Boise, "We're music lovers."

Included in the lineup are L.A.-based Operator, who, according to Smith "are a kick-ass band. Their lead singer is a Mixed Martial Arts fighter who sounds like Chris Cornell," Evans Blue and Framing Hanley, who are out on tour together, and local band Black Tooth Grin, who won their spot at the XFest by having the most fan votes at a competition held at the Big Easy.

For all of you Godsmack fans, lead singer Sully will be signing his new book, The Paths We Choose, at the Boise Towne Square Mall Borders bookstore at 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 9.

$35, 5 p.m., Idaho Center, 16200 Idaho Center Blvd., Nampa. Tickets available at Ictickets.com, Ticketweb.com or at the door. For a chance to win free tickets, 100.3 is having a school supply drive on August 9. Visit Xrock.com for more information.
