View Full Version : What role do the Evangelicals play in 2008?

The neocons seem to hate Huckabee; the Evangelicals don't trust Mitt because of his Mormonism. Fred, Rudy, McCain, all have multiple marriages. Who are the social conservatives going to back?

That seems to be the 64 dollar question on the right.
The religious folks still think, and maybe they still are, that they are in charge of the GOP at the same time the neocons refuse to give up on their dead agenda.

None of them stand a chance because the republican party right now is as good as done.
It will be a good long time before they become much of a factor again.

Now Fred Thompson is not exactly my idea of conservative. Divorced from his high school shotgun wedding mate, Freddie Moose recently remarried a lady younger than his children and grandchildren and as a senior citizen with his 41yr old child bride sired a 4 yr old and a 1 year old as he qualifies for medicare. Nixon once called MOOSE "dumb as hell" but that was before he got the job as chief GOP lawyer on the committee investigating Watergate. That job got him a book deal and launched him into his two bit acting rolls. Thompson is no Ronnie Raygun.

Fred Thompson, former U.S. Senator from Tn., former LOBBYIST, and lawyer.

Does that also spell out Washington insider?

Is that someone you'd want to see in the Oval Office?

Fred Thompson. It really doesn't matter. Any of the republican candidates is head and shoulders above Hillary, Obama or Edwards.

If that's all the dems have to offer, they are in real trouble.

Now THAT's "Funny!" :D

So now let's see what are the Republican Choices???

1. A Mormon....2. A Preacher...... 3. An Actor....And 4. A Crooked Sleazy Thrice Married Adulterer, whose first wife was his COUSIN, and whose children barely speak to him!

DECISIONS.....DECISIONS......DECISIONS!!!

Poll Finds GOP Field Isn’t Touching Voters

Three weeks before the Iowa caucuses, Republican voters across the country appear uninspired by their field of presidential candidates, with a vast majority saying they have not made a final decision about whom to support, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll.

Not one of the Republican candidates is viewed favorably by even half the Republican electorate, the poll found. And in a sign of the fluidity of the race, former Gov. Mike Huckabee of Arkansas, who barely registered in early polls several months ago, is now locked in a tight contest nationally with Rudolph W. Giuliani and Mitt Romney.

By contrast, Democrats are happier with their field and more settled in their decisions. For all the problems Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton appears to be having holding off her rivals in Iowa and New Hampshire, she remains strong nationally, the poll found. Even after what her aides acknowledge have been two of the roughest months of her candidacy, she is viewed by Democrats as a far more electable presidential nominee than either Senator Barack Obama or John Edwards.

Except for the money Huckabee has reeled in from "the religious" the news reports that the Democrats are getting the "Christian right" monies that once went to the bad Bush crowd. I am glad to see that the Dems are now holding the moral high ground. Bleached blonde young wife seems to be the GOP candidate's other half. Kucinich sure has a looker.

I think the evangelicals will play the role of Bruce Willis in the 6th Sense.

They won't know they're dead.

But they are.

I think you have it correct!
It might be fun when they figure out just how dead they are!

Let's see. Who do the democrats have?
LMAO.....Don't you ever read a newspaper? The The American Peple could care less about the GOP Presidential Candidates...In fact they could care less about the GOP. They've had it with Republicans....Republicans have had eight years, and they have fucked things up so badly, it will take another 20 years to fix all the things The Republicans have screwed up in eight short years. Have you looked at the deficit lately? I didn't think so.

Here's another way to look at this:

An old hag US Senator (Washington insider) who stayed with a philandering husband because of his name and political power.

OR: An extremely bright, experienced U.S. Senator who has eight years as First Lady, and who chose to keep her family together rather than get a divorce after her husband's infidelity. Now THAT's Family Values for you! (Isn't it interesting how all these "Family Values" Republicans do nothing but bash Hillary for working on her marriage and keeping her family together? What a bunch of Hypocrites!)

A US Senator (Washington insider) who has all of 2 years experience but he is handsome and eloquent.

OR: An articulate, motivating Black US Senator who anyone American would be proud to hear speak anywhere in the world....which certainly could not be said for the Republican who has been in the White House for the past 7 years.

Retired US Senator (Washington insider) who made his money as an ambulance chaser and convincing juries he could channel the thoughts of dead people.

OR: A Caring Self Made Millionaire who did not inherit it money, power and influence from "Daddy" like Republican George Dumbya Bush, but instead worked his ass off for "The Little Guy" and became extremely successful doing it all on his own...Unlike Stupid Bush who got everything handed to him on a Freaking Silver Plater, including The Presidency of The United States of America.

I guess it's all in how you look at it! :D

It is quite interesting that in Iowa there is such diversity with 1 woman, 1 black, 1 Mexican and 6 divorced men all wanting to be president. I would cross out the divorced as they have problems with control and would run into difficulties with foreign leaders. You can bet all those divorced losers expect control over women's bodies in all ways and completely ignore population density issues.

Oh yes. I agree whole heartedly. I hope Hillary can keep Bill's hands off the girls. She's looking kinda haggard these days.

The rightwing thinks Hillary looks old,(since when did that have anything to do with the ability to be President, ask white haired, denture wearin' George Washington and Alzheimer's addled, black shoe polish hair-dyed Reagan) while complaining that Edwards looks too good.

Unquote

The American people could care less about the GOP candidates????

The REPUBLICANS could care less about the GOP candidates.

There's great difficulty even among Republicans to find favor with ANY of their party's candidates.

It's all they have.
The right has always used the 'politics of personal destruction' to win elections.
Look at what they are doing to their own candidates.

They will get nothing but worse and the small minded will swallow everything they put out.

I think Hillary looks pretty good. At least she has hair unlike that comb-over bunch of has been GOP politicoes. It is sad that so many on the GOP slate divorce then marry bleach heads half their age. I give credit to those who can work through marriage problems. Look at lovely Suzanne Craig ignoring the gossip and standing by her man. No doubt both she and Larry have thanked God for this labor union writer's strike. Larry will probably show a more kindly attitude toward unions now that they have saved him months of homosexual ha ha ho ho-s. Perhaps he will even show a bit more tolerance toward gays since he is one. It would appear that Republicans do like sex after all.

I read that Huckabees courting of the Evangelicals was upsetting quite a few Catholics.

I think their roll will be much less than it was during Bush's first term. They believed that GW was anointed by God to lead them to get their agendas set into law. Thankfully much of that didn't happen and many moderate Christians are seeing these people as wackos they are.

I think the moderate christians have known all along what nutjobs they were.
But when a party surrenders to a special interest group as completely as the republicans did, what is your average moderate republican going to do?

The GOP played into the nutjob hands we are now dealing with the results of their agenda.
It will take 20 years or more to get the country back on track.

As are the Evangelicals if they're wanting influence.

I find it interesting that Huckabee won in wVa and read that many McCain republicans were voting for Huck since they were against Romney. Am I missing something? Why didn't they just vote for McCain if they are McCain supporters?

OK. I've never seen the GOP this fractured.
