I note that some of our regulars have trottend out or defended that old, sad list of 'Articles of Impeachment' as though they have merit beyond fiction and spin. In the spirit of this effort at fantasy, the Times also wrote yet another Editorial pretending to be more than partisan mud slinging. In fact, it was little more than fiction.

The Powerline blog disects the mess and reveals the editor for what he is, a bit like the poor fellow in Anderson's, 'the Emperors New Clothes'..sort of nude when scrutinized.

Yesterday the New York Times ran an editorial that perfectly sums up a kind of dementia, born of obsession and hatred, that has become common on the Left. Titled "Looking At America," the editorial focuses on the Bush administration's efforts to prevent terrorist attacks over the last six years. Some would look at that record and see success: no significant attacks on American soil after September 11, most of al Qaeda's leadership killed or captured, no more safe havens for terrorists, tens of millions of people liberated in Afghanistan and Iraq. But not the editors of the Times: they see only the negative, and react with "horror." It's worth taking a moment to dissect the editors' highly selective version of events since 2001.

"There are too many moments these days when we cannot recognize our country. Sunday was one of them, as we read the account in The Times of how men in some of the most trusted posts in the nation plotted to cover up the torture of prisoners by Central Intelligence Agency interrogators by destroying videotapes of their sickening behavior. It was impossible to see the founding principles of the greatest democracy in the contempt these men and their bosses showed for the Constitution, the rule of law and human decency."

One wonders whether the Times' editorialists actually read the article to which they refer, which told quite a different story. CIA officials say that they destroyed the interrogation tapes in part to protect the persons involved, some of whom "traveled regularly in and out of areas where Al Qaeda and other Islamist extremists are active." They also sought to prevent the officers involved from becoming "political scapegoats," which was, as the Times' own hysteria confirms, a valid concern.

That list of Impeachment Articles is identical. It is a list of imaginary scandals, partisan fiction and pefectly legal actions that the left does not like because they are not in power to do it.

It is why that list never went anywhere. It was transparent opinion and fiction to most of the folk who read it and only resonates with sufferers of BDS, and insidious mental disease.

LOL!

The laughably pitiful "They might have recognized one of the torturers over thar in 'Quaida Country." Because the CIA has no way of blotting out the faces of its torturers in videos. I still wonder why they came up with such a lame excuse. Though apparently not as lame as I imagined, since Jim appears to have bought it.

And how's about that Valerie Plame thing? That's got to have you in a real uproar, eh Jim? I'm sure you're one of the ones calling loudest for the jailing of the treasonous Republicans who put one of our CIA covert operatives in such danger, as well as utterly destroying the network set up by her to keep track of nuclear activities over there in Quaida Country.

I highly recommend the NY Times editorial as an echoing of my own distress over what righties have wrought.

I agree with them too.

Sometimes in the face of repeated whoppers, one has to repeat the truth and perhaps folk not suffering from BDS will take note....;)

Just because there are no major outcries for Impeachment of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, does not mean there are not grounds for Impeachment. In my mind...I would certainly think that lying to the American People in order to "sell" your "Product" (War) in September should definitely quality, as well as outing a CIA Agent as retribution during a time of war is right up there also.

As we all know, this Slimey Administration is Extremely Good at Corruption and has crossed their t's and dotted their i's or crossed their i's and dotted their t's so much so, that while their crimes are extremely obvious, there is still a lack of "concrete" proof due to their Expertise in covering their asses.

However, They will STILL go down in History as the Worst Administration in our History. So at this point, I don't even give damn if they are Impeached or Not....EVERYONE KNOWS what they did and how they did it. I just say get the Buggers the Hell out of our White House, and let's begin the process of Taking Our Country Back!

So JimV, if I were you, I would take very little comfort in the fact that This Administration is so Slimey that they were able to Slip away from Impeachment....because the Entire World KNOWS the damage they have done to the American People, The United States of America and The World.

Two errors, first it assumes that a lack of outcry in some way effects the reality of the charges one way ort the other. Next it repeats the 'lied about the war' canard mostly dismissed by rational folk, as though it was in some way a truth.

Again assumes facts not proven but only pretended at and then assumes such pretend corruption was in some way greater than the real corruption in such presidencies as Clinton and Nixon. It then assumes a lack of proof is in itself proof! Wow!

Only amongst fok suffering with BDS and non thinkers...history will be far kinder to the president than the nutty left is today.

And I say....Your definition of "Rational Folks" is limited to "Right Wing Extremists," and IMHO, I believe THEY are irrelavent!

As I discussed earlier, if we had hard proof, Bush and Cheney would be in Prison right now. OJ Simpson didn't go to Jail for killing Nicole and Ron either, but EVERYONE KNEW he was guilty....Same with Bush & Cheney!

Only amongst fok suffering with BDS and non thinkers...history will be far kinder to the president than the nutty left is today.

LOL....Boy, You sure are in Denial there Jim....You are also very "lonely" in that opinion. The majority of Presidential Historians I have read, say often that Bush will go down in history as "The Worst President In History!" Jim, just look at his approval ratings right now. President Clinton was Impeached while in Office and he has DOUBLE the approval ratings that George Dumbya Bush has....Where are coming up with this BS? You can't just pick this stuff out of your behind...what are You basing this on? I don't see it...Show Me!

Again assumes facts not in evidence or, put another way, confuses BDS with reality.

You guys and your BDS....It's Republicans who suffer from Derangement Syndrom...they are deranged enough to:

"Ignore" record low approval ratings for a two time President

Ignore the fact they this Administration has gone out of their way to curtail American Citizens Civil Rights

Put our country into TRILLION Dollar Debt!

Ignored the People of the Golf Coast during Hurricane Katrina, while they drowned

Embarrassed our Country just about every single time he spoke abroad

Has Ruled our Country behind Closed Doors and Windows, refusing to let in the light of day

Was on vacation in Texas, and STAYED on vacation in Texas, when he received The PDB stating that Osama bin Laden was looking to flying airlplanes into Building in this Country.

Failed to stop this occurence, even though he received "warning" in Aug, 2001

Has FAILED to capture and punish the purpetrators of The WTC Attacks on 9/11

Commuted the sentence of a member of his Administration, who was convicted
in connection with an investigation into the "outing" of a CIA Operative during a time of War.

I could go on and on, but when you talk of "Derangement," to me, it is "Deranged" to ignore all of the above, when judging a sitting or past President.

One new item on the radar that I think President Bush should be held accountable for is this.

“Former members and staffers of the 9/11 Commission have concluded that the CIA withheld videotapes of harsh interrogation sessions even after specific and "very detailed" requests about the two prisoners whose tapes were later destroyed..” ( http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/1223cia1223.html)

The 911 commission arguably was one of the most important gatherings of minds in our recent history. They were tasked with coming to grips with the realities of many issues that affect the lives of Americans and also people throughout the world.

As Commander and Chief President Bush, no matter what powers he may assume, is responsible to “We the People” via the Congress of the United States of America. Ultimately he is responsible for the actions of the CIA. By destroying those tapes it seems that the CIA is guilty of obstruction of justice and by default the POTUS is responsible.

Many will fall on their swords I am sure in the end, just like those who took the fall for Reagan with the Iran/Contra hearings. But even if it only turns out to be symbolic I believe the president should be taken to the carpet on this one….
