I don't want to! I've tried very hard not to! But damn it, I just like this guy!
I sure hope he's the GOP Candidate in 2008, because even though I will definitely vote for whichever Democrat gets the Nomination (as I feel they are all excellent candidates and I REALLY don't trust Republicans in the White House right now!) I would also feel less stress and pressure, because I would feel, either way, I couldn't lose too badly like I did in 2000 and 2004.
Does that any sense at all???
I just think this guy is FOR REAL! He is concerned about the environment, spending money he doesn't have, and about the working class instead of the major corporations. We could do a lot worse than Huckabee!

and rights for gays. He's a GOP theocrat. Nothing more. He does seem to think the poor should be fed. That's about it.

He also thinks wives should be servants of their husbands.
No thanks. He's a bit too backwards for me.

Some of the pundits are already saying that though Huckabee might fare well in South Carolina with its Christian and Evangelical base he might not get the boost in New Hampshire coming out of Iowa that he expects, nor in many of the other states through super Tuesday.
I also applaud Huckabee for kicking butt against the big money candidates, but didn't another recent President have the backing of the religious right? Wasn't he also attributed to saying that he heard messages from God?
Wasn't there a recent post on this very message board about White House records being public, including visits by Evangelical Christians?
Wonder what kind of messages Huckabee would hear?
I have no objections to the religious beliefs of any of the candidates, as long as they're held in Church, NOT at 1600 Pennsylvania.
Just a thought.
I still hold with the thought that those who like religion running government should move to IRAN. The far right thought Dumbya was religious only to find out he lusts/lies for blood, sank the USA dollar, plundered the social security trust fund $2.4trillion and attacked and slaughtered nearly 1 million Iraqis with a taste of his style Christianity.

I agree with you here Gus except that Chenney has more bloodlust and greed.
Back to the main topic. I've seen Huckabee a few times on talk shows and he does come across as a fairly likable candidate in my opinion, with the exception of the obvious pandering to the evangelicals.

Yes, Gus! The problem w/many of the evangelicals is they believe the Amway folks who told them Jesus wanted them to make all kinds of money and amass riches here on earth. I always understood Jesus' message a different way, but it must have been those wacky Catholics who brainwashed me.

Huckabee comes across as a genuinely nice guy. That said, I could never vote for him.
I think that in a general election between him and Obama (I realize we're just getting started with the process), that Obama would mop the floor with him. Landslide.

"Huckabee was the state’s chief executive for more than a decade, and was largely viewed by animal advocates as an impediment to moderate reforms, or at the very least, someone who never lifted a finger to advance animal welfare. The governor’s record on animal issues was further tarnished in 1998 when the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported that Huckabee’s 17-year-old son, David, was fired from his job as a Boy Scout camp counselor because he and another teen allegedly killed a stray dog. Animal protection groups reported that the boys hanged the dog, slit his throat, and stoned him to death—but the teens were never charged with any crime. "
"...the governor tried to stop the state police from investigating the cruelty charges against his son..."

Can those who like Mike Huckabee accept that he is arguably more anti-choice than even George W. Bush? Any of you ladies want to follow Huckabee's support of a human life amendment to the United States Constitution? Some versions of these amendments could lead to bans on not only abortion, but most common forms of birth control, stem-cell research, and assisted reproductive technologies like in-vitro fertilization.
Fighting for choice means taking a stand against anti-choice candidates who are adamant about rolling back our rights. 35years after Roe v. Wade and you women need to still fight against vehemently anti-choice politicians like Huckabee. Mike believes that the government should make personal, private medical decisions for women and their families. As governor of Arkansas, Huckabee did all he could to restrict women's access to family-planning services. Before he was governor, he actively supported an amendment to Arkansas' state constitution to prohibit state funds from being used for abortion, with no exceptions even for rape, incest, or to protect a woman’s health.
