Excerpt

Republicans last night broke the all-time Senate record for filibusters in a two-year term when they forced the 62nd cloture vote of this session on the omnibus appropriations bill, H.R. 2764.

The previous record of 61 cloture votes in a two-year term was set in 2001-2002, the last time the GOP comprised the minority in the Senate.

End excerpt

Remember when the Republicans were griping about the Democrats' use of the filibuster and wanted to do away with the filibuster? Just think where they'd be now if they had.

Yep, The thing I truly dislike about MOST Republicans is their Arrogance and Hypocrisy...In fact, those are the things I truly dislike about everybody. But it does seem that there is an over-abundance of both of these traits in the Bush Administration Repubicans, and their "followers!"

The ONLY time you EVER hear Republicans even mention the word "bi-partisan" is when Repubicans are in "The Minority." Any time Republicans are in "The Majority," they never utter the word "bi-partisan!"

If I remember correctly, when Tom Daschle was Majority Leader of the Senate, didn't he institute a "bi-partisan" plan to have both a Democrat and Republican as Co Committee Chairman on each Committee, due to the ever so slight majority held by the Democrats that year?? If anyone knows any particulars about that, I would be very interested in learning about them.
I dont' ever recall such a "bi-partisan" plan coming out of the GOP in my lifetime????

It doesn't seem that this thread received much attention, and I still see the MYTH perpetuated that the Democrats control Congress.

True, the Democrats have the MAJORITY in both houses, HOWEVER, the Republicans use the same filibuster tactics that they complained about the Democrats using to keep Congress from hardly getting anything at all done, whether it be good for the country or not.

So, who REALLY controls congress? The Democrats? Or the Obstructionists?

Even when the Republicans had the majority in both houses during 6 years of the Clinton administration Clinton managed to work across party lines and get a few things accomplished.

The bushco Republicans aren't willing to do that. Their attitude seems to be America be damned.

Yep...The GOP has become "THE GREAT OBSTRUCTIONIST PARTY!"

When and who ever started this "Super Majority" requirement in the first place? And how do we get it changed?

You seem to be under the impression that the Democratic party works for the American people or is there to act on behalf of its constituents demands?

Also, I always forget to remain steadfast in regards to the short-term memory issues of Americans in general, especially unabashed Dems who have become so disillusioned with Bush over the last 8 years...

This post isn't meant to be a flame ORG, I just don't understand why anyone would still hold any illusions that Dems or Repubs would act on what their constituents want. They all get reelected anyway. They can just take the corporate cash, allow the lobbyists to write their bills, throw in some earmarks or pork, live the high life, and then count on being reelected by the same people who wonder aloud why they don't do what they were elected to do.
