I recently joined audible.com and started listening to books on my iPod. The first one I got was The Kite Runner. Has anyone read this or heard anything about it?

I read The Kite Runner when it first came out...seems like four or so years ago. I couldn't put it down and read it in one day. As I recall it was an interesting historical perspective on Afghanistan in the 70's (back when they had a society that would attract Western tourists), and just a really gut-wrenching read. I think it made me cry. :o

Apparently it's a movie now, but I haven't seen it. Couldn't possibly be as good as the book...as those things go.

He's also got another more recent book A Thousand Splendid Suns which I have not read and don't know much about.

WOW.....You were absolutely correct Lenny. This book had me in tears several times.

It was great! I listened to it on my iPod (first time I've done that, usually I rent tapes or CDs) and it was read by the author, which I always prefer.

What a great...though terribly sad story. I found it very interesting to hear about places that I've heard about and still hear about in the news everyday in Afghanistan.

It peaked my interest enough that now I am going to read "A Thousand Spendid Suns" by the same author.

I would highly recommend this book. Now I can finally see the Movie!
