RIYADH, Saudi Arabia - Saudi Arabia's warm official welcome for President Bush, the scion of a family with close ties to the kingdom's ruling family, masks his deep unpopularity among ordinary Saudis.

A recent poll found only 12 percent here view Bush positively — lower than Iran's president or even al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden — and more think warmly toward Iran than America.

Among the reasons are the chaos in Iraq that followed the U.S.-led invasion and the widespread Arab feeling that the United States is biased in favor of Israel and not serious in seeking Mideast peace. A recent editorial said everything the president touches "turns to dust and ashes."

Or one decider to another. Both have ignored the wishes of their people and instead have kept the wealth to the ruling class.

Who is using who?
Bush has been indebted to the Saudis for decades, they've bailed him out of a lot of failures. Them and BCCI, of course.
They recognize a weakling puppet when they see one.
And George has done well by Saudi Arabia, and NO Saudis have ever been held that the Saudis didn't want held, that's for sure.
Of course the people hate him.
The leaders have to fake it.

Check out the video of what Bush intends to say to King Abdullah about high oil prices. Sounds reminiscent of Oliver Twist asking, Please Sir, May I have some more? Not wanting to upset his benefactors.

I wonder if the smart bombs we're giving the Saudis are as smart as the smart bombs we're giving to the Israelis?

I'm surprised to NOT see a comment on this, from the reference.

The Saudi Wahabis hate us more, they were the spiritual nucleus for the 9/11 hijackers.
Most Saudis look at Osama as a hero. He accomplished what the Saudi leades could not: Get the Infidels out of the Kingdom. We subsequently removed all our bases in Saudi Arabia, and we have none there now.
Osama won.
Of course our reputation is mud there. Have you seen the pictures of Bush in Saudi Arabia yesterday and today?
He kisses his master.:(
He fawns at his side.
He is the servant, begging for a crumb with golden armaments to please his King.
Sickening.

Oh, yeah, I'll tell you somethin' I think you'll understand
When I say that somethin' I want to hold your hand
I want to hold your hand
I want to hold your hand

Oh, please say to me you'll let me be your man
And please say to me you'll let me hold your hand
Now let me hold your hand
I want to hold your hand

And when I touch you I feel happy inside
It's such a feelin' that my love I can't hide
I can't hide
I can't hide

Yeah, you've got that somethin' I think you'll understand
When I say that somethin' I want to hold your hand
I want to hold your hand
I want to hold your hand

And when I touch you I feel happy inside
It's such a feelin' that my love I can't hide
I can't hide
I can't hide

Yeah, you've got that somethin' I think you'll understand
When I feel that somethin' I want to hold your hand
I want to hold your hand
I want to hold your hand
I want to hold your hand

In the 50's in Oklahoma and Texas around the Oil Patch the locals called the Saudis who were studying engineering at the Universities "Sand N***ers", and had a generally low opinion of them, but HEY!, all the smart people left Oklahoma and Texas YEARS ago!:D
My wife is from Oklahoma, so this is how I know.
George got bailed out by the Saudis in just about every failure he invested in, and there were way more than one.
Bandar Bush was always the Saudi's man in the BFEE. He runs Saudi Intelligence now.
Funny that...

We visted there a few years ago. A totally depressed area. The big companies drilled out all the oil decades ago.

Americans need to wake up to the fact that the vast majority of our natural resources are now gone. We can't pretend they will come back again. It won't happen. Those days are over.

We need to concentrate on a green industry and invest there.
