My niece gave me two "green Albertson's reuseable shopping bags" for Xmas so I wouldn't use the plastic or paper bags. Albertson's also rebates a nickel a bag. I'm using the bags and enjoying new relationships because of them. An ex New Yorker today told me how he chose to become carless when he moved to the valley, and uses mostly only his bike with a carrier since moving here. He uses the cab or bus in dire circumstances and saves a fortune on vehicle/insurance costs.

We've also closed off two rooms from central heating in our house which are seldom used. We're also trying to use only our most efficient vehicle.

We are only running large loads in the washing machine and making sure the dishwasher is stacked full.

Any other ideas?

cataloguechoice.org is a great way to stop those often useless catalogue that come from places like L.L.Bean, Cabellas, wine gifters, meat gifters, flower or plant gifters etc. which clutter up your U.S. Mail and over fill your mailbox. When you sign up with this group on the internet and list your unwanted catalogue they will contact the sender and have the sender cease sending you these mailings.

By throwing my cig. butts only on the street where the sweepers can clean them up AND by putting all my hazardous household stuff (sprays, Cleaning Chemicals Motor oil etc.) into plastic bags to keep it out of the ground at the dump.
