In 1870 race no longer kept black men from voting. 15th AMENDMENT.
FIFTY YEARS LATER in 1920 sex no longer kept black women, white women and women in general from voting.19th AMENDMENT.

Will it take another 50 years before a woman will be elected president?

Today I saw a letter in the paper where a man said he was not going to vote for a candidate because of race or sex so was voting for MITT (Willard) ROMNEY.

Thanks for the history lesson Gus. I had never heard of those things before. It was always my impression that women and colored people had always had the right to vote.

Is this the letter you are talking about? No mention of Romney, but hey, why not "sex" it up a bit?

Base your vote on record and ideas

I was listening to National Public Radio Jan. 26 and I heard something I almost couldn't believe.

One of the NPR correspondents was discussing the dilemma some Democratic primary voters are faced with in South Carolina. The dilemma is which "identity" is more important to them- race or gender - in determining who will be the next leader of the free world. No other issues were discussed! It really sounded like the big question for some Democrats is which form of bigotry they prefer to practice - racism or sexism?

I'm a conservative and race or gender will not get factored into my decision. I just care about things like voting records and ideas for the future.

I can only read the paper online, so maybe someone who has it can tell me where this letter about voting for Romney appeared?

But I do agree with his sentiments. Things like skin tone and sex organs are superficial, and casting a vote for someone based on that is basically an act of sexism or racism.

She addressed the female issue in this race perfectly. Maria Shriver also came on stage to endorse Obama.

Michelle Obama is fantastic.
