Bonnets and Brunch - Culinary Walk-About

It's been a few weeks since we've been able to squeeze the old Food News into print, but here's a round up of what and where you should be eating this week.

Starting things off first thing Sunday morning is Rex Chandler's mother and daughter Bonnets and Brunch benefit held for the Boise arm of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the foundation dedicated to raising funds for breast cancer research.

According to Chandlers, what will hopefully be an annual event is another reason for women "to don their favorite bonnet and enjoy a delicious meal."

Chandlers brunch is a new event—and there's little doubt that, based on Chandlers' track record with dinner, it'll be delicious—so there's your first reason to check it out. Personally I'm stoked about it, but I'll be honest: I don't own a bonnet, much less a "favorite bonnet." Just what is a bonnet these days? What would Helen Kaminski wear, that's the question.

Regardless of what you choose to cover your noggin with, it's the event's inaugural year, so go big and bold and set a trend for years to come. Need a little inspiration? Check out SPJ.

Bonnets and Brunch, Sunday April 5, 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., $35. Chandlers Steakhouse, 981 West Grove Street, 208-383-4300.

This one's not until next week, but we hear tickets are down to a mere 40, so start planning now if you want to make the rounds at this year's Culinary Walk-About. The annual event is a fundraiser for Meals On Wheels featuring almost two dozen of the area's most popular chefs. If you've never been, it's an event I highly recommend. Stake out a table with a crew you won't be embarrassed eating third or fourth helpings in front of because the idea is to walkabout the room, sampling a bit of everything from everyone. Ever have a hard time deciding between Italian and seafood? This is the one night of the year you can have both. Last time we checked, tickets were running dangerously low, so stop procrastinating.

Culinary Walk-About, Thursday, April 9, 6-9 p.m., $50, Boise Centre on the Grove. For tickets, call 208-327-7460.
