Wheels of Good Fortune

Posted By on Thu, Jul 15, 2010 at 10:15 AM

For years, cyclist Kristin Armstrong would train on an 8-mile stretch of Bogus Basin Road. Armstrong chose Bogus for her training because its steady climb mimicked the rise on the Olympic course in Beijing, China. True to form, when it came time for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Armstrong rode to victory and a gold medal.

Later today (Thursday), Boise residents are invited to cycle over to Highlands Elementary School at 3434 Bogus Basin Road for the official dedication of the Kristin Armstrong Bikeway. The secondary bikeway designation will not change the name of Bogus Basin Road, but new iconic signs will be unveiled this evening to officially designate the honor.

Following the dedication, Boise Mayor Dave Bieter will lead a community bicycle ride from Bogus Basin Road to the downtown YMCA for a reception in Armstrong's honor.
