Elective Surgery Being Investigated in Death of Airman

"The tragic event is undoubtedly affecting us all," said Col. Ron Buckley regarding the death of Staff Sergeant Krystal Ballard on Monday. Ballard was assigned to the 366th Fighter Wing at Mountain Home Air Base.

Sergeant Ballard was first seen at Elmore County hospital on Sunday before being transferred to St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise. The Ada County Coroner's office tells Citydesk an autopsy was inconclusive, but there was nothing suspicious to indicate she might have been the victim of a crime. Ballard had elective surgery a few days before she died and that is being investigated, according to the coroner's office.

Ballard served as a budget analyst for the 366th.
