Meridian Passes Bans of Texting While Driving and Possession of Spice

Tuesday night, the Meridian City Council unanimously approved a ban of texting while driving. Beginning Nov. 1 Meridian Police will begin warning drivers about the ban. Beginning Dec. 1, first and second time offenders will be fined $75. A third offense would result in a misdemeanor with a punishment of up to $300 and up to 90 days behind bars.

The Meridian City Council also passed a ban of the posession or sale of "spice." Anyone caught selling it, using it or sharing it will face a misdemeanor with a penalty of up to $300 and as much as 6 months in jail. Governor C.L. "Butch Otter is expected to sign into law a statewide spice ban on Friday, Oct. 15.
