151,000 More Jobs, But Nation's Jobless Rate Remains Stuck at 9.6 Percent

The net gain wasn't enough to budge the nation's unemployment rate, but the U.S. economy added 151,000 jobs in October.

The gain was the first time in five months that jobs created outpaced jobs lost. But the jobless rate is still frozen at 9.6 percent for the third straight month.

The U.S. Dept. of Labor said Friday that private employers hired 159,000 workers. That's the best since April. Employers also extended the average work week to 34.3 hours, up by one-tenth. The department also revised August and September numbers: It turns out the private sector added 103,00 more jobs than previously estimated.

Idaho's labor statistics are expected later today.
