Nation's Jobless Rate Lowest in Two Years

Posted By on Fri, Mar 4, 2011 at 10:05 AM

Following months of disappointment, the nation's unemployment numbers took a turn for the better in February. The U.S. Labor Department reported this morning non-farm payrolls grew by a seasonally adjusted 192,000 in the month, the fastest pace since May 2010. As a result, the jobless rate dipped to 8.9 percent, the lowest in nearly two years.

The data seemed strong even below the surface. Payrolls for the previous two months were revised higher, by 152,000 in December and by 63,000 in January. Gains were registered in construction, health care and manufacturing sectors.

The February numbers for Idaho will be released later today.
