Wind and Solar Projects Proposed for Mountain Home

Posted By on Sat, Mar 12, 2011 at 12:03 PM

Over the course of a few days, three large-scale alternative energy projects have been proposed for the Mountain Home area.

The Elmore County Planning and Zoning Commission has given a preliminary thumbs-up to a combined wind and solar facility to be located off Canyon Creek Road about five miles north of Mountain Home. The project includes six wind turbines, each capable of generating 2.5 megawatts of electricity. A series of solar panels at the site would collect another five megawatts.

On a grander scale, the Mountain Home City Council is considering a proposal for a large "solar farm," capable of generating up to 10 megawatts of power. Expected to cost up to $45 million the project would mirror a similar facility under construction near the Boise Airport.
