2011 Irrigation Season Begins to Flow

With a healthy snowpack in the mountains and nearly full reservoirs, the men and women who manage the Treasure Valley’s largest irrigation system had reason for optimism this morning when they opened the Ridenbaugh Canal head gates on the Boise River near Barber Park.

Over the next few weeks, more than 80 canals will fill, snaking 500 miles throughout the Treasure Valley. An optimistic water supply forecast includes higher-than-average snowfalls and rainfalls accompanied by carryover water supplies from 2010.
