How "green" is Idaho?

At least according to the 2011 Greenopia environmental ranking of states, Idaho is greener than most. The Gem State came in 15th place (up from last year's 16th).

"Idaho has much better than average air quality and number of LEED buildings relative to its small population," said the review. Greenopia also gave Idaho kudos for its low emissions per capita and low amounts of waste per person.

Negatively, Greenopia said Idaho had worse than average water quality and one of the lowest recycling rates in the nation.

According to Greenopia, the Top Ten greenest states are, in order, Vermont, New York, Washington, Oregon, Minnesota, California, Nevada, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Maine. On the negative end of the spectrum, the lowest performing states were Indiana, Louisiana and West Virginia, which came in dead last.
