DEQ to Resume Water Monitoring in July

Idaho's Department of Environmental Quality is dusting off its water-quality sampling equipment. After a cutoff of funding, DEQ had suspended much of its monitoring of Idaho waters. DEQ Director Toni Hardesty told BW in February that the state risked being out of compliance with federal guidelines if the testing didn't resume this coming fiscal year.

The 2011 Legislature approved one-time funding of $390,000 to resume the monitoring, so the DEQ is expected to activate six three-person teams to once again collect and analyze water data throughout the state. Training is expected to being in June. Testing is expected to resume in July.
