Sony Hit With Second Loss of Customer Information

Posted By on Tue, May 3, 2011 at 3:00 PM

The news just keeps getting worse for Sony. The global electronics giant announced today that it had discovered a second "illegal intrusion" in its Sony Online systems, compromising bank account information from its clients in several countries.

In April, Sony's Play Station Network was hacked, shutting down systems to 77 million accounts, including its Qriocity service, which allows movies and music to be downloaded. Both platforms were crippled after the cyber-attack that occurred between April 17 and April 19.

The most recent attack exposed the personal information of 24.6 million customer accounts, as well as an outdated database that still contained credit and debit card numbers. As a result of the new discovery, Sony took down all services that were hacked.
