Wolves Expected to be Removed From Endangered List

Posted By on Wed, May 4, 2011 at 9:06 AM

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service could publish a rule as early as Thursday or Friday that would remove Endangered Species Act protections for wolves in Idaho, Montana and portions of Oregon, Utah and Washington. As soon as that happens, Idaho's Department of Fish and Game will again be in charge of all aspects of wolf management inside the Gem State.

Fish and Game Director Virgil Moore said that wolf hunting in the Lolo Zone, in northeast Idaho, could begin sooner than later. The hunting is expected to begin by air.

Moore talks about wolves, the Lolo Zone and much more as a Citizen in today's Boise Weekly.
