Weiner Admits Deceit; Breitbart Hijacks Press Conference

Posted By on Mon, Jun 6, 2011 at 3:17 PM

Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner today admitted lying to the American people and his family, acknowledging that he had been involved in inappropriate conversations and electronic messages with six women over the last three years. Weiner insisted that he would not resign because of the incident.

His voice breaking, Weiner said he had tweeted a suggestive photo of himself to a women in Seattle, an event that he earlier claimed repeatedly did not happen.

"The picture was of me and I sent it," Weiner confessed in a late-afternoon press conference.

Andrew Breitbart, who was the recent guest speaker at the Idaho Freedom Foundation's annual shindig on May 19, attended by Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter, schools chief Tom Luna and more than a dozen of Idaho's GOP elite, temporarily hijacked the news conference while the press waited for Weiner's arrival. Breitbart said that he was in possession of an "explicit photo" of the New York congressman. Weiner later told the press that he could not deny that the photo was of him, and that, "I love my wife very much and we have no intention of breaking up over this."

Weiner said he initiated the relationships with the women that he had met on Facebook, Twitter and over the phone.

"This was a very dumb and destructive thing to do," said Weiner.
