Idaho Woman Charged With Felony Animal Cruelty in Colorado

Posted By on Thu, Jul 21, 2011 at 11:23 AM

A woman who said she was moving from Idaho to Texas had an abrupt stopover in Fort Collins, Colo., where she was jailed on charges of animal cruelty. Police say they found more than 20 animals in the back of a U-Haul without ventilation or water.

Fifteen dogs, two cats and four pygmy goats are being cared for at a northern Colorado animal shelter. Holiday Christie, 56, was charged after law enforcement said the animals suffered from heat exhaustion and dehydration. They said the temperature inside the vehicle was 106 degrees. Aggravated cruelty to animals is a class-six felony in Colorado. Christie is being held on $2,500 bond.

Idaho is 1 of only 3 states without felony penalties for animal cruelty.
