Boise Police Report Fewer Major Crimes, Improved Response Times

The Boise Police Department unveiled its latest crime statistics this afternoon, showing an increase in calls for service but a drop in the number of major crimes reported.

Overall, for the period of January through June of this year, 2,733 major crimes were reported to Boise police, a drop of 5 percent from the same period last year. Robbery and motor vehicle theft were up, but drops were reported in aggravated assault, arson, burglary, rape and theft.

The average response times also showed an improvement. According to the latest statistics, it takes Boise police an average of 7.7 minutes to report to a call for service, a 4.5 percent improvement from last year. Priority III calls (Boise's highest priority) averaged a response time of 3.3 minutes, an 11.3 percent improvement.
