Rivers Talks About His Holiday Market for the Falls

BODO developer Mark Rivers is inching forward with his plans for a big, 36-day European-style holiday market. But it's not in Boise, it's in Niagara Falls. In this morning's Niagara Falls Gazette, Rivers sits down to talk about his Christmas present to western New York. Rivers grew up in the small town of Ellicotville, N.Y., south of Buffalo.

"We are in full management mode," said Rivers. "It is actually going better than I anticipated."

Rivers said he expects to begin marketing the holiday event sometime after Halloween.

"Right now, we're kind of like the duck on the lake—we're paddling furiously underneath the water and sort of sliding along on the top. But it's been terrific. The region has embraced it."

Rivers' plans include four live concerts, a food and wine festival, an outdoor skating rink, a choir singing competition and scores of holiday vendors.
