Redistricting Will Have to Start All Over Again

Posted By on Mon, Sep 12, 2011 at 12:27 PM

After Idaho's legislative redistricting commission failed to meet its deadline last week—and two lawsuits were immediately filed—Idaho Secretary of State Ben Ysursa said the process has to start all over again, and he's talking from the start with brand new commissioners.

The Spokesman Review is reporting that Ysursa issued his ruling this morning, citing a 2009 law that prevents any former redistricting commissioner from serving again. This means that an entirely new commission will have another 90 days to complete the redistricting work.

Of course, that not only means more expense to taxpayers, but the delay in coming up with new legislative districts could cause some problems with fall elections.
