Hewlett-Packard stock sank today to its lowest level in six years, in the wake of the announcement that Meg Whitman would become the company's new CEO.

In midday trading, the stock was down 90 cents, or 4 percent. In the morning, the stock hit $21.50, its lowest level since May 2005.

HP announced at the close of business on Thursday that former eBay CEO Meg Whitman would take over from Leo Apotheker, who was ousted after 11 months on the job.
