Luna Opponents Launch Great Idaho Schools Project

The same group that led a successful petition drive to put the so-called Luna Laws before Idaho voters next year launched another initiative today-something it calls the Great Idaho Schools Project.

Organizers launched a website, greatidahoschools.org, a Facebook page and Twitter feed to collect ideas and comments.

"We want to put the 'public' back in public education," said Mike Lanza, co-founder of Idaho Parents and Teachers Together.

Lanza said the group will publish a report in January 2012, offering citizen support and ideas to school administrators and school boards across Idaho.

"We want to take the next step forward and help give people the voice they were denied by our elected leaders," said Lanza. "This will be a very organic process, and we don't know yet what we'll hear from people. But we do believe that Idahoans want a more-inclusive process than was employed by our elected leaders to determine the future direction of our public schools."
