Hammon, Stegner Finalists for U of I Lobbyist Position

The Lewiston Tribune reports that two very familiar statehouse faces are finalists for the position of chief state lobbyist for the University of Idaho.

Republican Sen. Joe Stegner of Lewiston and Idaho Division of Financial Management administrator Wayne Hammon are in the final three, along with Idaho Grain Producers executive director Travis Jones. Each is expected to visit the Moscow campus next week for final interviews and open forums with the university community.

U of I officials said more people applied for the lobbyist job than any other open university job in recent memory.

"The interest was very, very high," Chris Murray, U of I vice president for advancement, told the Tribune. "Nobody's going to be the next Marty Peterson (who retired earlier this year). That's an impossibility. But we're very pleased to have this pool."

Peterson served two decades as the university's special assistant to the president for government relations.

Stegner and Jones are alums of the U of I.

A final decision is expected by Nov. 1.
