VIDEO UPDATE: Construction to Begin Monday on Whole Foods, Walgreens

Will Paradise, president of Whole Foods' Rocky Mountain region, attired in mid-summer clothing, stood in front of suit-and-tie lawyers, bankers and politicians this morning, all huddled at the peninsula bordered by Broadway, Front and Myrtle streets.

"The guy in the white shorts brought you the good weather," said Paradise, basking in Indian summer sunshine. "Our company has 314 stores, $10 billion in sales, and 64,000 employees. And we're pleased to bring our first store in Idaho here to Boise."

Paradise joined the suits to break ground on a new 35,000-square-foot Whole Foods, soon to be joined by a 15,000-square-foot Walgreens.

"When we first started this project, I didn't have any children. I have three kids now," said Paradise, referring to the eight-year process which finally led to today's ground breaking. Construction crews are scheduled to move into the site on Monday. Whole Foods and Walgreens are scheduled to open late next year. The site was jokingly referred to as "Whole-Greens."

"This site has been empty far too long," said Boise Mayor Dave Bieter. "I'm asking you now to make it whole and make it green."
