Study to Explore Potential Performing Arts Venue Inside Convention Center

If Boise Mayor Dave Bieter and philanthropist Esther Simplot have their way, a portion of Boise's convention facility could house a new performing arts venue.

Simplot, the City of Boise, the Greater Boise Auditorium District and Oppenheimer Development Corporation will join to explore the feasibility of an 800- to 1,000-seat facility to showcase the arts. If the study concludes a venue could be successful, a portion of the existing Boise Centre could be repurposed as a possible location, but only following an expansion of the building.

"I'm thrilled to have this opportunity to help explore opportunities to enhance Boise's artistic and cultural environment," said Simplot. "Our community is blessed with tremendous amounts of creativity and energy, and we have a chance to present this talent to more and bigger audiences."

The cost of the study will be split equally between Simplot, the City of Boise and the Auditorium District.

The study will be broken down into two phases, the first considering marketing and viability, the second considering the financial and operational issues.

The first phase of the study has a price tag not to exceed $23,500. The second phase is not to exceed $20,500.
