Victim Witness Advocates Are Queens for a Day

A few dozen women, whose lives have been touched by crime, were treated like royalty today at the annual "Queen for a Day" event at Boise's D'Shaw Institute of Cosmetology.

"Everyone deserves a day of pampering," D'Shaw instructor Lynn Witherspoon told Citydesk, saying it's the least the institute could do for women "who have given so much."

The women, many who have worked with the Boise Police Victim-Witness Unit, were invited to to a day of makeovers, haircuts and manicures, the fourth-annual event.

By noon today, 18 women had already walked through the doors as D'Shaw's guests. Witherspoon said many of her students hadn't participated in volunteer work before, but loved the opportunity.

"We enjoy doing it," said Witherspoon. "We're getting something out of it, too. It's a win-win."
