Shopko Part of Merger to Create Nationwide Retail Giant

Posted By on Wed, Jan 4, 2012 at 11:29 AM

Shopko, which operates nine retail outlets in Idaho and two in the Boise area, announced a merger with Pamida today, thereby creating what they call one of the nation's largest general merchandise retailers. The combined $3 billion company will have approximately 350 stores in 22 states. All of the stores will be under the Shopko name.

Shopko, based in Green Bay, Wisc., operates in 13 states. Pamida, based in Omaha, Neb., operates in 17 states, but up until today's merger had no presence in Idaho.

A company spokesman said that once the chain-wide conversions are complete, new Shopko retail locations are expected to be announced in the second half of 2012 and into 2013.
