Boise Council Votes 'Yes' to Vote 'Yes' on School Levy

It's still a full month-and-a-half until the Boise School District supplemental levy election, but administrators can already count on a "yes" vote from some of Boise's highest profile citizens - in particular, members of the City Council.

In a unique vote of solidarity, the council approved a nonbinding resolution supporting passage of the $14 million, five-year levy hike, which district officials say is necessary to retain current class sizes.

"I'm extremely impressed by this levy," said Council Member T.J. Thomson. "Not by asking above and beyond, but what the district truly needs to remain strong."

The entire council voted "yes" Tuesday evening, in a first-of-its-kind support of a school levy.

"I see this as a first step in a partnership," said Council Member Lauren McLean. "I'm grateful that the council decided to do this."

In today's edition of BW, we examine the levy issue, by hearing from administrators and parents in support of the measure and a local talk show host and many of his listeners who are pushing back against the pending vote.
