Idaho School Sued for Not Plowing Snow Hill Where Accident Occured

The parents of an Idaho student are suing the Coeur d'Alene School District over an incident in which the boy sustained severe injuries during recess.

The case involves a January 2008 incident when the boy, a 10-year-old student at Coeur d'Alene's Atlas Elementary at the time, was playing on a mountain of snow in the school's playground. Lynn Abercrombie said her son was accidentally knocked off the snow pile by another student. He fell six feet to the ground and suffered a fracture to his left hip. According to the boy's mother, her son has undergone several surgeries for the injury and now needs to have his hip replaced.

The Coeur d'Alene Press reports that the suit against the district claims that the school could have prevented the injury by "better plowing the snow pile, roping it off or at least forbidding the children to play on it."

The plaintiffs are asking for judgment in excess of $10,000.
