Texting, Speeding Blamed for Fatal Crash

Posted By on Tue, Feb 7, 2012 at 12:46 PM

As Idaho lawmakers consider the latest incarnation of rules intended to ban texting while driving, a recent example of the behavior is certain to spark conversation.

The Idaho State Police reported today that a Jan. 14 three-car crash east of Mountain Home, which killed an 18-year-old Caldwell woman, is linked to texting while driving. Law enforcement confirmed that Taylor Sauer was using her cellphone to text extensively up to and including the last minutes prior to the crash on I-84, 13 miles east of Mountain Home. Police said text messages were both incoming and outgoing. Additionally, there were multiple Facebook communications to and from Sauer during the minutes immediately prior to the crash.

Sauer was reportedly traveling 88 mph immediately prior to impact.

The cause of the crash has now been attributed to inattention, distractions in the vehicle, and speeding.
