Senate Committee Passes Right-to-Hunt Bill

The Idaho Senate Resources and Environment Committee has given its approval to a measure that would put a ballot initiative before voters this November to amend the Idaho Constitution to protect "the right to hunt, fish and trap."

"I'm a father and grandfather, and I know the joys of going to the hills, chasing wily deer," said Twin Falls Republican Sen. Lee Heider, the bill's sponsor. "Many of our rights are being threatened every day."

Terreton Sen. Jeff Siddoway, a Republican and former Idaho Fish and Game commissioner, voted in favor the measure.

"It may not be all that far in the future when some of those fanatical and radical groups try to take away those rights," said Siddoway.

Utlimately, the committee voted to move the bill to the full Senate, with one lone "no" vote coming from Boise Sen. Elliot Werk.
