Boise Schools Among First to Sign Up for Laptops

Each of the Boise Independent School District's high schools and junior high schools have signed up to participate in the first rollout of laptops, scheduled for 2013, as part of the Students Come First Laws.

In fact, more than 170 high schools representing approximately 84 percent of the state's high school students have signed up to participate.

The first phase of the laptop program is expected to put mobile devices in the hands of teachers, principals and other certified personnel beginning this fall. That will be followed with a three-year rolling deploying of laptops to high school students, beginning in fall 2013, when one third of the devices will be distributed. To determine which schools would be first in line, the State Department of Education asked school administrators to submit letters of interest by Feb. 17. The departement received 99 letters, representing 174 different high schools and middle schools, including nearly 68,000 students statewide, far more than the one-third eligible for the laptops next year.
